An immigration detainer has been placed on 27 year old El Salvadoran Jose Duran Romero who is being held in Forsyth County jail. Romero is being accused of killing a 3 year old when the car he was driving hit the side of an ambulance that was transporting the child. The collision caused the ambulance to flip over which led to the child, his mother and 2 paramedics being rushed to the hospital. Romero and his passenger both fled on foot after the accident. They were both later captured and Romero was charged with DWI, failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash and driving without a license. Court documents show that he blew a .19 on the breathalyzer, which is more than twice the legal limit in North Carolina. He has also had an immigration detainer placed on him.
